Vipava Valley – Sept. 26-27
By Leyla
After our second meal at Pizzeria Minutka, a 3 hour affair, we set off for Slovenian wine country, the Vipava Valley, where our Airbnb was a modern 2 bedroom bungalow set in a vineyard. The bungalow was very stylish with lime green accents on the bedding and towels and 2 bedrooms that were tiny, but very well appointed, like cabins on a yacht. We were served a 5 course dinner, accompanied by vineyard wines. Our host, Ingrid, appears to be very industrious. The vineyard has been in her family for 5 generations and she not only runs the winery and the restaurant also is the host of the resort she has created, with her 4 Airbnb bungalows and a paradise for camper vans, set amongst the vineyards. She suggested a 1+ hour walk into the hills on one of the Slovenian hiking trails we are becoming so familiar with. We went at sunset and again the following morning after sunrise. It was really beautiful, rows of grape vines planted alongside figs, apples, persimmons and olives on rolling hills with larger mountains on either side of the fertile valley.
